The second part of the assembly is the lower tube with ball-and-socket joint and tom arm, which inserts into the end of the upper tube for lockable positioning. Extraordinary adjustability

Since you won't be playing the hats on this arm with a foot pedal, Mapex has engineered it with additional components that translate your playing to a fixed-hat application. The tensions on the top and bottom hat bushings and felts, respectively, are independently adjustable, letting you choose just the right amount of movement for each cymbal. You also get separate angle/tension adjustment for the bottom cymbal cup.
